Oregon College Tennis

1920 Men's tennis became a minor sport at Oregon State University with Bennett T. Sims as first varsity tennis coach

1921 Phil Neer wins the NCAA singles championship representing Stanford University

1922 Phil Neer wins the NCAA doubles championship with James Davies

1928 Men's tennis was accepted as a major sport at the University of Oregon as the Ducks captured the Pacific Coast Conference Championship.

1929 The University of Oregon Tennis team ties University of Texas for the mythical U.S. Collegiate Team Championship. Henry Neer is a member of the University of Oregon team. See picture of Henry Neer.

1933 Sam Lee wins the NCAA doubles championship with Joe Coughlin of Stanford

1935 Tennis reborn as a varsity sport at the University of Portland.

University of Portland team - 1954:  Burke Mims, Mike Tichy (coach), Jerry Doyle, Jack Neer, Mike Walsh, Jim Flynn

 

1955 The Portland Pilots played their way to the NCAA quarter-finals with Jack Neer providing the leadership. The following year the University of Portland won their first 19 matches before the string of 79 was snapped by a Seattle University team. See the picture of the team

2001 Travis Parrott wins the NCAA doubles championship with Matias Boeker of the University of Georgia.
