Junior
The Irvington Club offers swim lessons for all levels and ages of swimmers. Youth lessons are divided into 5 levels, with 5 sessions offered, and 12 classes per session. We are sure you will find a class for your swimmer. Private lessons are a good choice for children as well as adults who have specific swimming skills that they would like to master. The Lesson schedule below was for 2012.

To sign up for any of the above lessons, go to: www.irvingtonclubcourts.com (on the calendar, find the start date of the specific lesson that you would like to register for. After clicking on the date, all lesson levels that our offered will appear in the pool section of the daily calendar. Click on the lesson name, that will take you to the signup page. Fill in the name of the participant, then scroll down the page and click on the SIGN UP tab. You will get a confirmation message that you have successfully signed up).
Junior Group Swim Lesson
Group lessons are on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Swimmers must be able to complete all advancement skills in accordance with Irvington Club Performance Standards in order to move up to the next level. Group swim lessons are offered at the Irvington Club for members and guests. Lessons take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday for two weeks, totaling 8 half hour lessons per session.
JELLYFISH (11:15; 11:50) – An introductory level swim class for the non-swimmer focuses on basic water adjustment and beginning swimming skills. Skills needed to advance include bobs with bubbles & breathing, blowing bubbles, and assisted floats on side, back, and stomach.
TADPOLE (10:40; 11:50) – This second level class for the non-swimmer is geared toward those comfortable in the water, but not yet swimming or kicking on his or her own. Skills needed for advancement from Tadpole include floats on front, back and side for 5 seconds, glides on front and back with kick for a distance of 5 feet, and an unassisted shallow water jump with recovery.
LOBSTER (10:40; 11:10; 11:50) – A class geared toward children who are floating, gliding, and kicking on their own. Skills required for advancement include streamlined front glide with kick for 15 feet, back kick for 15 feet, side-glide kick for 10 feet, and dolphin body with kick for 10 feet.
STINGRAY (11:15; 11:50) – This level is geared toward beginning swimmers with strong kicks on front, back, and side who are comfortable in deeper water. Necessary skills for advancement include freestyle without breathing for 1 width, 6-kick switch front crawl for 1 width, side-glide kick for 1 width, and back kick for 1 width.
BELUGA (10:40; 11:15) – Swimmers will take skills learned in Stingray to progress to side-kick freestyle with bilateral breathing for 2 widths.
ORCA (11:15) – Orca levels 1 and 2 will be taught as a split level class, with 1 – 3 instructors, depending on the number of swimmers enrolled.
Level 1: In this advanced level swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards of side-kick freestyle with bilateral breathing, 25 yards of backstroke with shoulder rotation, breaststroke for 25 yards, elementary backstroke for 25 yards and tread water for 30 seconds.
Level 2: To complete this final level, swimmers must swim 50 yards of side-kick freestyle with bilateral breathing and a turn, 50 yards of backstroke with shoulder rotation and a turn, 50 yards of breaststroke with a turn, 25 yards of butterfly, 25 yards of sidestroke and 2 minutes of treading water. Swimmers will also work on improving stroke technique and developing endurance.
Pre-Swim Team
Pre swim team is geared to swimmers that have completed the Stingray lesson level, but are not quite ready for the beginner swim team group. Swimmers may advance to the beginner group, and may also participate in swim meets with coach approval throughout the season. Pre Swim Team participants will be required to attend a “test day” in early June (TBA) to ensure they are at the appropriate level prior to the first day of practice.

Junior Lifeguard
Junior Lifeguards will learn lifeguarding skills, pool safety, First Aid, CPR, rescue techniques, and improving their swim skills. The Junior Lifeguard Class will prepare students for the Lifeguard Certification Class and Future Employment. Class includes a Junior Lifeguard T-Shirt.
Time: 12:00pm - 1:15pm
Cost: $100/members, $110/Guests
Prerequisite: Must be able to swim 2 laps of freestyle and be ages 11-14.
Sea Monkeys—Parent and Child
This class is for infants and toddlers ages 6 months to 3 years. Children are introduced to the water while accompanied by a parent. Sea monkeys will learn introductory water skills such as blowing bubbles, floating, and kicking while becoming more comfortable in the water.

Private Swim Lessons
Private Lessons are available for children and adults looking to improve their swimming skills in a one on one setting. These half hour lessons are offered on Wednesday’s at 10:40, 11:15, and 11:50, as well as weekends from 9:30 to noon, with the last lesson beginning at 11:30. The cost for a half hour private lesson is $30 for members, and $35 for guests.
All lessons are held rain or shine!
Refund Policy: No refunds or credits will be given when a group swim or tennis class is canceled later than the Wednesday prior to the start of the session.
